The Callaway County Sheriff's Office has two K9 teams led by Sgt. Alan Lebel and Sgt. Corey Schmidt.  The K9 teams are regularly deployed in numerous ways to assist our deputies, outside agencies, and the community. Both of our K9's, Iro and Krieger, are pure bred German Shepherds that were born in the Czech Republic and were purchased from Shallow Creek Kennels in Sharpsville, Pennsylvania.

Sgt. Lebel and K9 Iro first went into service in June, 2017 and Sgt. Schmidt and K9 Krieger have been in service since July, 2019. Both K9's are certified through both NAPWDA and MPCA as dual purpose working dogs. Our K9's are trained in narcotics detection, tracking, suspect apprehension, and handler protection. K9 Iro and K9 Krieger have collectively both been deployed hundreds of times, have assisted in seizing $100,000's worth of illegal narcotics, and have successfully apprehended many suspects utilizing their tracking abilities.
