22) Previous Sheriffs of Callaway County

Callaway County was organized November 25, 1820, and named for Captain James Callaway, grandson of Daniel Boone.

The first Sheriff of Callaway County was appointed by then Missouri Territorial Governor Alexander McNair in 1820. You may notice the year 1820 written on the shoulder patches on sheriff's uniform shirts and on the quarter panels of marked patrol vehicles.
