A Year in Review - February, 2023

I sure hope this month's newsletter finds everyone doing well, weathering Winter okay, and, as me, looking forward to Spring!

Operations at your Callaway County Sheriff's Office remain in full-force and busy!  In 2022, a total of 24,775 calls for service were handled across our vast 842 square mile county.  Our county jail booked/processed 2,042 arrested subjects for an array of criminal offenses - minor to major.  1,536 of those custodial arrests were made by Sheriff's Office staff - more great evidence of the hard work the men and women of the Sheriff's Office are performing!

Moving forward and speaking of calls for service, we continue to sometimes hear citizens say - "we didn't want to bug you with something so little!"  Please know, we are not being bugged.  Simply, citizens many times hold the pieces to the (criminal) puzzle.  Simply put, what may seem little or nonchalant at face-value may actually be that small piece of the puzzle we are looking for to break open an investigation, make an arrest, etc.  Example being, a suspicious vehicle where only a few characters of the license plate were captured.  That is totally fine - please still call, have a deputy respond, and provide the characters that were seen.  Or, there was a suspicious person and only a glimpse was caught of said person with limited description.  Still call!  It's all about the pieces of the puzzle :)

As always, if a citizen has any reason to contact me, please do not hesitate to do so - my door is open and I gladly accept phone calls.

I sincerely appreciate your support, and the support given to my deputies as well.  It is immensely heartfelt.

Respectfully, your Sheriff,

Clay Chism
