A New School Resource Officer is Coming! - October, 2023

We truly hope this month's newsletter finds everyone happy and well.

For the past several years, the Callaway County Commission, the Callaway County Sheriff's Office, and the three rural school districts, North Callaway RI, South Callaway RII and New Bloomfield RIII, have partnered to provide a Sheriff's Deputy to the districts.  The deputies assigned to the school districts are known as "School Resource Officers". 

The SROs are on campus everyday that school is in session with very limited exceptions, generally for training or court.  The SROs assist with the safe arrival and dismissal of students each day.  The SROs assist in educating students by participating in classroom discussions such as mental health awareness training, job fairs, internet security training, counseling with student and instructing Drug Awareness and Resistance Education (DARE) classes. 

The SROs enjoy every moment of being a part of the schools they serve and more often than not, are able to provide a distraction from a student's stressful day.

The Callaway County Sheriff's Office is very pleased to announce that, beginning January, 2024, we will be providing a School Resource Officer to the two Jefferson City School District schools, North School and Callaway Hills.  We will work with the district to pick the right candidate and look forward to this new endeavor.
