EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS

Thank you for showing an interest in working with the Callaway County Sheriff's Office. Listed below the qualifications that a successful candidate will have.

  • Requirements for Callaway County Deputy Sheriff:  The application process for Deputy Sheriff is OPEN!

    Applicants must be 21 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent with a valid POST Certification. Applicants must be of good moral character, have no felony or disqualifying misdemeanor convictions, be able to type 30 words per minute, be of appropriate physical and mental health to meet the stringent physical and emotional demands of the profession, and pass pre-employment testing; including but not limited to: written exercise, comprehension examination, fitness test, and be able to pass background checks including drug testing, truth verification examination (CVSA), and final review board.  Applicants must be able to speak, hear, read, and write English and have the ability to touch, smell, and distinguish colors. Applicants must be willing to work any shift including weekends and must be willing to take up actual physical residency in Callaway County within six moths of date of hire.

  • Requirements for Callaway County Detention Officer:  The application process for Detention Officer is OPEN!  

    Must be 18 years of age with high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent. Must be able to type 25 words per minute. Must be able to pass a background check. Candidate must be willing to work any shift including weekends.  Applicants must be able to speak, hear, read, and write English and have the ability to touch, smell, and distinguish colors.

  • Requirements for Callaway County Deputy Sheriff Trainee:  The application process for Deputy Sheriff Trainee is currently closed.

    Applicants must be 20 years of age (must be 21 years of age at the completion of basic law enforcement academy training) with a high school diploma or equivalent. Applicants must be able to speak, hear, read, and write English and have the ability to touch, smell, and distinguish colors.  Applicants must be of good moral character, have no felony or disqualifying misdemeanor convictions, be able to type 30 WPM, be of appropriate physical and mental health to meet the stringent physical and emotional demands of the profession, and pass pre-employment testing; including but not limited to: written exercise, comprehension examination, fitness test, pistol demonstration, background investigation, interview board, drug testing, truth verification examination (CVSA), and final review/interview with the Sheriff. Upon accepting employment, the applicant shall successfully complete a Missouri Department of Public Safety - Peace Officer Standards and Training certified law enforcement academy as chosen by Sheriff's Office administration, followed by an extensive (approximately four month) field training process. At the completion of field training, residency must be in Callaway County. Upon successful completion of the law enforcement academy, the applicant will be assigned to the patrol division unless otherwise assigned by the Sheriff. The Deputy Sheriff Trainee is required to fulfill a three year employment contract beginning upon graduation from the law enforcement academy.  


ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT

The Callaway County Sheriff's Office is seeking a full-time administrative assistant.  Applicants must be able to speak, hear, read, and write English and have the ability to touch, smell, and distinguish colors.  Responsibilities will include; but not be limited to: bookkeeping/financial auditing, management of the Callaway County Sheriff's Office Sex Offender Registration (including conducting verifications/updates with registered sex offenders), the issuance and renewal of Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) permits and any/all other tasks as assigned by the Sheriff or his designee.  

Qualifications:

  • Strong interpersonal skills in order to provide excellent customer service.
  • An understanding of and ability to maintain the required confidentiality.
  • Ability to work well with people of diverse socioeconomic/cultural backgrounds.
  • Basic computer skills and literacy in using Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office and Quicken.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Must have the ability to obtain MULES Certification.

Starting pay is $33,200.00/annually with full benefits (14 paid holidays and two pension plans; LAGERS and CERF), in addition to paid medical premiums.  Work hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
